CFD consulting project of a bespoke ventilation louvre

CFD consulting on a bespoke louvre pressure loss CFD simulation
“CFD Engineering UK were recommended to BECT through the mechanical engineer working on the city centre project in Cardiff. The project has a unitised façade with ASHP to provide the hot water. The difficulties with the unitised façade are the limitations in the system, in addition to this the ceiling voids are very sallow therefore there is not sufficient room for the ductwork to cross. This led to double backed louvres in the façade for the ASHP exhaust and the mechanical extract.

CFD Engineering UK were able to model each of the scenarios where the ductwork penetrated the façade to provide data of the pressure losses being achieved.

In the first instance, the 20Pa requirement in the worst case was out by 130Pa. Following this, Dr. Robert Dul was able to recommend ways in which the slot configuration could be modified to reduce the pressure loss to the requirements.

This took a few iterations to bring it down to the lowest achievable pressure loss with the limitations of the cladding system. Each time, Dr. Dul was very helpful and quick to respond, showing his clear expertise to help us reach the best solution.

There was an exceptional level of cooperation and patience from Robert, as none of us here at BECT had ever used CFD Modelling in this way before. The report was always professional and easy to understand, and Robert was available at short notice to go through and discuss the findings and recommendations.

We will certainly be using CFD Engineering UK again and would recommend to anyone in need of CFD Modelling.

A complex temporary air conditioning CFD consulting project

CFD project about a large venue ventilation simulation
“UKSV engaged with CFD Engineering UK to produce a particularly complex CFD model for a temporary air conditioning project we were asked to deliver. As a live events agency, post-COVID in the UK, concerns are high about the safety of returning to large scale live events and our client wanted to ensure the fresh air provision for the audience reached the recommended levels per attendee for the events. Robert provided an exceptional level of service from the outset,
handholding us through the process (we have never undertaken CFD before) and establishing the parameters that could and would be measured to ensure our clients satisfaction.

I would thoroughly recommend CFD Engineering UK for any upcoming CFD Modelling requirements you may have.” – Neil Coombes, Senior Account Manager, UKSV

Update received from Client on 5th September 2022

“The aircon system seemed to work well – particularly as we were operating over the hottest day of the year – we were able to keep the internal building temperature at least 12 degrees cooler than the outside.

It was obvious that the entire space was being reached by the air with 1500 attendees in the room.

The one upside of the tweaks to the system was the tubes extending into the reception area – this provided a much cooler entrance space than we have ever had before which only helped to reassure the client.

Thanks again for your help on the project!” – Neil Coombes, Senior Account Manager, UKSV

CFD simulation and mechanical design of an innovative air curtain device for doorless entrances of large buildings

“Over the past two years, having met with Robert on numerous occasions and having him facing a few design technology challenges, both physical and virtual, I can categorically state that he has surpassed my best expectations of CFD services. He has the persistance and determination required in proving by innovative countermeasures and is excellent in his presentations and in-depth explanations.” – Richard Maris, Engineering Director, M.I.E.
